Borrowed Time

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust

It’s hard to know when your time is up

Struggles are hard, and times are tough

But for the record, I’ve had enough

*

Borrowed time, don’t know how to play nice

Like you own the lease on this thing we call life

But when you’re gone, there’ll be no surprise

A debt is owed for all of your lies

*

You pushed the limit, broke every rule

Given the chance to change, and still you chose cruel

Can’t say I’m sorry, you earned this fate

Cinder blocks, and some old gray duct tape

*

It wasn’t like this, when we first met

We had some magic, I must admit

But when the whiskey bottles covered the floor

Somehow the magic disappeared out of the door

*

Borrowed time, don’t know how to play nice

Like you own the lease on this thing we call life

But when you’re gone, no-one will be surprised
