Pretending to laugh

to hide the tears in your eyes,

donning that smile, knowing all the while

it’s just a glorious disguise.

so no one notices the monsters.

Shoving them farther, beneath your bed,

it’s normalcy that you must conjure.

wear all the right clothes.

Just transparent enough,

so that it doesn’t show.

there is nothing real about you.

No one finds it odd,

they don’t have a clue.
