we heard you breathing at the door

you shouldn’t go on, anymore

the note, scribbled in warm blood

still you refused to hesitate

with everything you’ve done

still moving on, you contemplate

we heard you jiggle at the handle

pushed your weight hard, with your hip

we whispered your name, Randal

tightened the devil’s burning grip

inside was sawdust on the floorboards

a mattress on the ground

a double shot of whiskey poured

with no-one else around

candles lit as shadows fall

flickered smoke spin webs of vague

a tea set on the table calls

answers for your last mistake

we warned you not to open

we knew you could not resist

we’ve been waiting for you, hoping
