Weeds And Wildflowers

Fingerprints and heartbeats bleed

Like wildflowers in the weeds

When whippoorwills have time to kill

On raindrop drizzled windowsills

Broken hearts and promises

Living with hope and consequence

Saffron with thistles well concealed

Exchanging light for darkened thrills

Digging up long-lost memories

Carried like fine accessories

The ones reminding you to feel

Making the hurt easily concealed

The silver moon

Leaves slivered wounds

We cover well with

Red balloons

To celebrate how far we’ve come

Dancing to someone else’s drum

Pruning the flower to the stem

To keep them coming back again

Renewing faith in what will be

Like new buds on a spring kissed tree

Or blooms exploding on a vine

Dappling beauty throughout time

So, leave the past safely packed away

For moments on a rainy day

Open your heart to love again

Seasoned with gentle drops of rain
